c25k - Week one

So, I am now on week one day 3.  Just a quick question about running/walking speeds.  I'm currently doing a slow jog at 5km/hour and walking at 4km/hour.  Does this sound reasonable for an unfit 50 year old who has never been able to run even for a minute before?  (Im doing this on a treadmill that I don't think converts to miles)

I didn't worry about distance, I focused on my breath - if I was walking I'd make sure that it was requiring some effort.  My jog required more physical effort - I could do short word answers only.  I used a treadmill recently on holiday and found that it was weird to have something controlling my speed, I guess running without it, there are natural slows and speeds.

your walking pace seems pretty good - you may want to add an incline to it. When you walk on the treadmill you have to keep up with speed or fall off, however, there is no forward trajectory like you have to do when walking outside. You have to artificially recreate the effort. An incline helps. As far as running, it is all based on how you feel. Do you feel like you are maxing out or are you comfy. You can change your speeds as you go to see how increasing for short periods of time would feel. Again there is no forward effort so going a bit faster than you might on pavement can help with increasing effort.
