Thanks Wendy I am going to go see what ideas I can find. I went shopping on Saturday, walked around the mall, cleaned my house and still didn't get to 5000 steps let alone 10000 steps. I am really upset, but I will keep trying.

You might want to test your tracker out by walking 100 steps and seeing how many it counts. Less than 5000 doesn't sound right unless you didn't walk much in that mall.
It seems like I hit 10,000 as long as I dedicate 60-80 minutes to walking, across the day. It sometimes seems like a lot but not when you consider some people run that long, or lift weights, or do hot yoga. I tell myself that I sit and lie for 22 hours or more a day, so 1-2 hours upright and moving is probably a tiny amount, given what our bodies are probably used to throughout history.

Kitkat, I find that house cleaning day is a low step day for me. What's with that? Scrubbing the bathroom floor doesn't give me any steps (I have a One), and even when I'm vacuuming, dusting, doing laundry, I still end up with fewer steps that when I'm outside walking, or on my gym days when I'm on the treadmill.
Don't get discouraged, though. If I can try to get out for a walk, maybe around the block a few times, or walk to the grocery store, or even walk/jog in place if the weather is bad, the steps will start to accumulate.
All the best to you!

Keep going, 10K steps is achieveable and you will get there! I step in place while I wash and dry my hands, and while I cook dinner and things like that. I do the same in front of the TV too. I go for a walk at lunchtime from work which clears my head and really ups those steps - 20-30mins usually. Keep stepping! 🙂 x

GerriD,
How about walking the sidelines during kids' sporting events? I saw that idea posted on here once. That is, if they are field sports (soccer/football etc)

I burn through most of it at the gym:
Today, 4:15AM | Treadmill | 6,092 steps | 2.67 miles | 1:05:00 | 485 cals |
But what counts is afterwards. To hit your goals on your app.

There is no need to be upset over it @KitKat001 - we're all different; and depending on your age and physical condition, it could very well be that 5,000 is already a phenomenal accomplishment! For me, I take every opportunity I can to add steps. For example, when I go shopping, I will park the car further than closer from the entrance, where usually there are fewer cars and thus less chances of getting by car doors dinged. When I watch a bit of TV at night, instead of getting my rump comfortable in my favorite chair, I stand up and walk in place here and there, for 5 or 10 minutes; and then do it again half an hour later. It's amazing how fast those steps add up. Don't get discourage and be realistic with your goals. Setting too high a goal can indeed be upsetting and discouraging. HTH! Take care.

Great link and thanks for posting (I just started reading discussion forums). I especially like the one about walking up/down every aisle in the grocery store even if you don't need anything in that aisle. I am surprised how many ways I had found to avoid extra steps. After a year with fitbit I recongize those as opportunities to get extra steps.

The way I get mine is to have a route to walk. Mine is a 5 mile loop "Around the block" (Using 2 freeway overpasses) that makes me complete the loop. Audio books or music keeps my mind occupied. (Just picked up some Aftershokz headphones for better sound and still being able to hear traffic.)

Strangest way to get to 10K.....mid July we finally got our household goods moved into the condo we purchased in mid June. Everything of ours in the overs possession had a sticker on it, this is referred to as the inventory. The moving foreman hands me the list of eight sheets of inventory and the crew begins to bring the household goods in. I stood at the kitchen island with the sheets and pen in hand and the carton/contrainer sticker numbers are read and I than put a check mark by each item. This went on for six and a half hours. My husband and I as well as the moving crew took a 45 minute lunch break. During that break my husband I ran to lunch and stopped at a hardware store to purchase some small do hinkey or other. That night I finally entered all my food for the day, had no actual "exercise" but get a load of this folks.............my steps were over 15K!!!! Yep that was 99% standing at the kitchken island marking off the inventory numbers, I spent the time shifting back and forth on my feet. This is probably way there are busineeses that encourge their employees to use the stand up and/or standup treadmill work stations. You do NOT have to actually be walking to get steps, I proved that myself. Just don't sit on your behind.
