foot problems-blackened toe nails from treadmill

I have been getting my steps in on the treadmill and have been doing aqua fit at the gym .  I finnally am up to a 17 minute mile at an incline of 3.  The problem I have now are that a toenail on each foot have blackened.  I do not know if I am doing something incorrectly or I need different sneakers.  Has this happened to anyone else?

I would go get fitted for New shoes.

Go to a good running shoe store where they will look at your Gait etc. Your feet are worth it

I had that happen after I had hand surgery and had to wear shoes that didn't need to be tied.  That was in November, and even though I switched back to my good running/walking shoes, the blood under the nails (just the big toes) just now cleared up.

I agree with WendyB:  Go get fitted for some good shoes.  I need to replace my shoes about every six months since I put quite a lot of mileage on them.  I bought a cheap pair (I liked the color) and went through the soles in a matter of a few weeks.  Now I buy good shoes and add good inserts, since I pronate when I walk and my arches collapse.  It has made a huge difference!

Yes, I went to have a fitting.  Bought a pricey but comfortable pair of running shoes (wider and larger) than old pair.  Plus an orthotic insert because have the beginning of plantar fac....(something).  I want to get back to my scedule...feel like a slug the past three days.  Still have the ugly black nails but that will take some time to heal.  Thanks for the recommendation.....glad it wasn't anything more serious.

The blackend toe nails will be due to pressure from shoes that don't have a large enough toe box for your feet.

I would see your doctor. Blackened toes is not a good sign. It may be an infection underneath.

Yes, I tend to agree with @josephz2va - this might relate to sweating more so than fit, due footwear that doesn't breathe properly.
