hard code stride length vs. "set automatically"

Using Charge 3, first week.  I have seen many posts about stride length and calories burned.  I walked 5.22 miles and fitbit says I burned 844 calories - seemed a bit high.  I checked various online calculators based on my speed (3.33 mph), age, weight, height and they all hovered around 575-590.  There was a rise in elevation on my walk of 75 ft (not all at once, cumulative) which may make up some of the difference.  I use GPS on my paired phone, and my stride length is set to "Set Automatically"  For walking and running with paired phone GPS, is it better to leave it at the automatic stride length or hard code after measuring/calculating my stride length?

You will get better accuracy with setting your own stride length

I am not sure it matters since you are using GPS. since you are using an HR tracker, your calories are also calculated by your HR during the walk. When you look at your summary it should tell you how long you were in fat burn or possibly cardio. This will also help you determine if it is over calculated. If you are in fat burn for the entire time, it is probably a little high, but if you enter cardio.. it may be giving you a more accurate calorie burn for you, not based on online calculators.
