manual input of steps

Is there a way to manually input steps if the fitbit is temporarily unavailable, so a pedometer is being used.

Yes you can enter the steps but only for walking and running.

Click Log, Activities then click on the walking or running Icon.

You can select distance or steps and each will convert to the other.

Any manual activity will not go towards your badges and achievements.

How come you cannot get badges for manual imput I find it unfair that I dont recieve bages for my jogs on the treedmill. I would definatly feel more motivated if I new I could earn more badges if I jog longer.

Just wear your fitbit and you'll get credit for all those steps on the treadmill.

@saushaWhat type of Fitbit are you wearing, if it is a clipon you should have no issues but if you are wearing a wrist type and holding onto the rails you will get many less steps.  A suggestion for the wrist type is to test it wearing it in a pocket and see what the results are.

I am wearing the charge and it just doesnt seem very acturate I go for jogs on the treedmill and it will tell me the km i have ran but my fit bit is always way off so i manually type it in now. I also do not hold on to the rails  so it should be acurate but its not even when I go for walks it is way off. @Colinm39

@saushaI have found the Charge is about 5% less in steps for me than the same activities with my Fitbit One. But the extra calories seem to compensate for that.

I have also found that I get no steps while pushing a shopping trolley, but get all of the steps if I pull one of those small wheely baskets the supermarkets have.

I have also done the 100 step walk test on flat pavement and had variations from 96,101, 102 and 100 steps.. So the Charge is within the 5% that most pedometer manufacturers allow.

So when you say Kilometres, that is the calculation of your steps multiplied by your stride length and that may vary depending how Fitbit detected the speed of your step. ie, faster, it uses your run stride and slower your walking stride, so in a single activity your km's can vary.

I can't vouch for the treadmill, but there are many posts about issues with all of the Fitbits but if you use this link and you will get 60 posts to examine and I apologise if you have already checked this area.

Get back if we can help further

The fitbit is guessing at the length of your stride when it calculates the distance. You can measure your steps and calculate your stride length and put those settings into your fitbit profile to improve the accuracy.
