moving right along.... scale not moving but inches are!! Planning vacation and how to eat!

I'm simply amazed (again) how each day my Fitbit has motivated me to move!

My goal is 15,000 steps a day - I reached 18,000 last night.  Instead of sitting on the couch watching TV after dinner, I walk at least a mile on the treadmill.   Since January 1st, I've lost the 10 pounds I gained since Thanksgiving and actually bought some "regular" size XL shirts!

Going on vacation to the South for almost 3 weeks - I've "called ahead" to family and friends telling them that we are eating healthy.  They are all for it - what helps (I guess in a good way?) is that my husband is type 1 diabetic so I'm able let people know we have dietary restrictions.  EVERYONE said they are all trying to eat healthy and were grateful that I called to let them know - there will be lots of fruit/veggies/salads and protein (fish/chicken).

So... instead of going on vacation and dreading the a-typical weight gain while you are away, I'm looking forward to maintaining or even losing!  I've made sure the hotels we stay in have a work out room and also are bringing food with us that I know we enjoy and can eat if we need that to fall back on.

I've found it amazing these days - people really are relieved when you tell them you are eating healthy.  I think when they have visitors they feel like they have to make all sorts of foods that they are not eating either.   Don't hesitate to let people know what you are doing and wish for - you will be so surprised!

Congratulations on your achievements (you're already doing better than me) Keep it up and don't worry about the scales not moving that is normal, the scales will begin to drop again with continued dedication to your exercise routine and watching what you eat.

Like you I started off great walking everyday and going to the gym got rid of all takeaways and ate reasonably healthy and felt really good about it.

But surgery and illness put me out of commission for a while and now I need to push myself back into action and get back on track. Reading yours and others experiences like what you posted is a great way to help get me more motivated, so well done and don't stop.

You can get back into the swing of things again - just start small! Each
day build up more and more - don't look at what you "used" to do - look
forward to each day accomplishing a bit more.

all of a sudden you will find yourself back to where you were in due time.

Keep in touch if you want!

Smart move!  I always gain & fall off the wagon on vacation!  I've found over the past few years I can't really go by the scale anymore.  I try to base it off of how my clothes fit & what other people notice.  A year ago, I started to jog instead of walk, and upped my weight training.  All of a sudden those tight jeans were sliding off me...and people at work were noticing and commenting on my weight loss...yet the scale would NOT move.  Of course, shortly after I started to really lose, I got pregnant, and now I'm at my highest weight ever.  We can do this!

@Duffpic I love this post because I have been saying the same thing for years. you have no idea how accommodating everyone is in our society today for healthy eating. My family and I have been on a bunch of family vacations since my weight loss- Disney, Italy, Cruise, and several more.. each place we go, I ask what they are willing to change in food prep and the answer is always tell us what you want. I have never gained weight on vacation. I actually came back two pounds lighter from Disney. I hope lots of people read your post and keep it in mind for the season of travel...
