So, do we need to re-sync each hour or will this just be automatic when we check in and sync? I am not always to check in each hour and sync. Thanks

If you leave the app open on your phone and have 'All-Day Sync' selected, you Fitbit will sync when you are near your phone. No action required on your part. Also, depending on your Fitbit, they store data for several days, so evening if you don't sync for a few days, they data won't be lost.
