Since Hiit is more a structure of workout as opposed to a specific activity, I think it depends on the exercises. You can do "hiit" with just about any challenging movement. If your hiit is sprinting, you might be able to not log it. If your hiit is on a bike--maybe log it for the duration and miles covered (which would likely be fast), this is imperfect as some of the intensity might come from resistance, but you get the idea. A lot of hiit workouts use bodyweight exercises like burpees, etc. For this I would log it as "vigorous calisthenics" (which actually gives me the same burn as "circuit training" so I guess that is fine). I do think since hiit usually refers to short intervals with all-out effort, this is a little different than the circuit training and vigorous calisthenics options, but that may be the closest if you don't have a heart rate monitor.
