10 Tips To Eat Less Salt

Many years ago my doctor told me to cut extra salf from my diet in order to reduce the blood pressure. Since that time, I have never added salt to any of my food, even when cooking. Now, when I go to a restaurant, I can hardly eat the salty food they serve.

You’ve heard it before perhaps from your doctor or reading about it in an article – consume less salt in your diet.  Why is salt supposed to be shunned?  It’s not exactly that we should shun it completely as the human body does need a certain amount of the mineral sodium that salt is partly composed of.  Sodium actually has many functions from maintaining the body’s fluid and electrolyte and acid-base balance to aiding with contraction of our muscles and with nerve transmission.

Here is a good article on 10 Steps everyone can take to reduce salt intake - 10 Steps to Eating Less Salt

Thanks for posting.  I have become a salt addict.  I feel like I need to reign it in.

I have not kept it in the house for years.

Went to Outback a while ago and got the Vitoria's filet. It was so salty I sent it back could not eat it. And the one bite I took made me drink a ton of water. Gaahhhhhhhh

I rarely add it to what I eat, but I don't specifically eliminate it.  Oddly enough I make a point to add it to baking recipes as I know it contributes chemically to the mix (and amounts are low enough that it doesn't add much overall).  I do note that restaurant food is saltier than I'm used to, and like @WendyB had roasted potatoes one night that were overly salted in a restaurant.  And I do use salt, pepper and garlic when roasting my own potatoes.

@A_LurkerI don't bake if that's what you are talking about. But if I'm making a soup or some recipe the sodium is not added. I wont add Soup base either to loaded with sodium. I do not add Broth Beef or chicken Broth. I add spices and water

I do however compensate with a lot of spices

If I was to make cookies or some bake good I would add as I know its needed. Anything else no

But this is me. And we all need to do what we think is best
