Calorie adjustments

So I get that fitbit adjust my calories as the day goes. My issue is I eat dinner at 6pm and won't snack after. Fit bit tells me I'm on track after my dinner meal is logged. After getting my child down and all its like 8- 8:30pm. Then fitbit app is telling me I am under budget and have 162 cals left in my budget. The app main screen says I have 249 calories left. Well I don't WANT to eat that late at night, but do feel hungry. If I knew I had more calories I could of had more DINNER! This girl is hungry.

What am I missing?

@jbree The over/under and the calories left to eat look at different stats to give you that number.

For the over/under number the algorithm takes your target deficit and pro-rates it linearly over the 24 hour period from midnight to midnight. Therefore for a 500 calorie deficit target it would look for a deficit of 250 at noon and 500 at midnight. The over/under number is calculated at the time you look at the app. If you look at it at 6 pm it would compare your input and expenditure of energy for a deficit of 375 calories (3/4 of your target deficit). Since this number is calculated AT THE TIME you check, it is not smooth but will jump a lot depending on whether you check just before or just after you eat.

The calories left to eat number is partly based on your history of calorie usage. The algorithm estimates how much more you will expend for the rest of the day (until midnight) based on your past calorie expenditure and then uses that number to estimate how many calories your can still consume and meet your daily deficit target.
