I'm vegetarian, and recently discovered that I'm allergic to gluten in some capacity(the term celiac wasn't officially used, but gluten definetly is a problem for me. I've also been vegetarian for about five years now. I really don't want to give up being vegetarian, not at all, but finding foods that are both vegetarian AND gluten free can be challanging without lots of effort or time put into it. Anyone have some veg. recepies that can easily be gluten free, or vice versa? Any tips on finding gluten free food? Any gluten free brands you really enjoy?

Jammers1 Thank you for the information you posted in a reply you gave in June. I have developed over the years a gluten intolerance myself and being more vegan than vegetarian it has been very difficult to find good places to find resources for good information. Most of the vegan recipes are using wheat or other forms of gluten to incorporate into their cooking. It has been challenging to say the least.

It's great to have you here @AimeeMarie! I'm not familiar with brands in your area, but fruits and veggies are available for everyone.
I love watching Laura Miller in Raw.Vegan.Not gross; where she makes many recipes that are vegan, gf and raw (even if you are not into it) also, in season 2, she starts cooking some recipes; to change it up a bit. I could not recommend her videos enough!

Have you given Beyond Meat a try? They are really, really, really good and are gluten free. 🙂

Some of my closest friends are celiac ( the whole family)... now, they are not vegetarian, so you may want to check labels.
Baking Products - Flour replacements :
Pamela's is great; can get online, Target, Whole Foods . ( good for Non- gluten free people too! )
Coconut flour, almond meal, flax seed meal - use in various combinations to replace flour - but higherin calories
Barilla makes a decent GF pasta of all shapes and sizes ..
I have found a few good recipes here: http://ohsheglows.com/categories/recipes-2/food-allergies/gluten-free/
Hope this helps

I am gluten intolerant and a vegan 🙂 Starting out was definitely a challenge for me, but I have found some great resources along the way. I don't use a lot of gluten free brands (besides Pamela's and Bob's Red Mill) as I find the calories, fat, etc. to be way to high so I'm not much help there. I typically cook everything myself. I turn to to the following sites for a lot of my recipes: Though some are not gluten free, they are easily adapted to be gluten free and often times give you alternatives to use to replace foods with gluten. Also alot of them have their own cookbooks.
Thug Kitchen
Oh She Glows
Forks Over Knives
Happy Herbivore
Chocolate Covered Katie - tons of yummy gluten free treats
Clean Eating Chelsea
Gluten Free Goddess
Hope that helps. It can be frustrating and daunting at first, but trust me there are so many great options out there that are gluten free. You'll find your way in no time. Good luck to you 🙂

I do a mostly raw food diet. I also have issues with gluten but I am not actually allergic. I just made a raw corn salad that was so yummy even my husband ate it.
Raw Corn Salad
4 ears of corn, cut off cobb
2 Tbsp fresh parsley,chopped
1 small cucumber, peeled, deseeded and diced
1 small yellow squash or zucchini, peeled and diced
4 scallions, sliced thin
1 orange bell pepper, deseeded and diced
1 jalapeno pepper, deseeded and diced
a handful of cherry tomatoes, cut in half
4 sun dried tomatoes, packed in oil, let oil drain off, dice
juice of 3-4 lemons
salt and pepper to taste
Shiracha sauce to taste
Mix all together and chill

I've got a great paleo pasta recipe that uses almond, arrowroot, tapioca and yard eggs. It's easy to make, even without a robotcoupe. I've used it to make lasagna, ravioli and pappardelle. You can also make lasagna with eggplant or zucchini instead of pasta sheets.
Pizza with a gluten free crust and grilled vegetables, goat cheese and blueberries is better at a bbq than hot dogs!
You can make mock potato skins with avocado instead of potatoes.
Use grilled portobello mushrooms instead of burger buns..
Add nuts to your salad instead of croutons.
Panna cotta is a great dessert!

If you have an Aldi's nearby, look for their LiveGFree brand gluten free bread. There's regular and whole grain. Delicious for sandwhiches 😄

I am glad that to see I am not the only one who moved to being vegetarian who is also allergic to gluten. I decided to go back to my vegetarian lifestyle in 2009 after I had a serious medical issue. The gluten allergy was accidentally discovered in 2012 as a constant stomach pain and other nasty symptoms would not stop and no doctor was able to find the reason why.

Hello al!! Love reading through this forum! I went vegetarian/gluten free for awhile a couple of years ago, which was the healthy I have ever felt! However I couldn't keep up with it and started that slippery slope downhill where my health started degrading again ( stress, life issues, cooking time committments). I am trying to get back on the right track again but it hasn't been an easy process. I am just taking it day by day again!
