Hello everyone. I've had my Fitbit for a little over a month and it's been great! A few years ago I was doing T25 and running, but unfortunately was not eating enough for the calories I burned and I looked sickly because of the weight I lost. Took some time off from working out but I'm back at it again. This is also the first time ever that I've logged my meals and it's been helping me maintain my weight.
We're going on vacation in a month or so and I wanted to ask you all if you still log your food while on vacation or do you just "wing it" and not log it? Not everything you eat on vacation can be found in the food library, especially from non-national restaurants. I'd like to keep at least 85-90% of my meals healthy, with some cheats here and there, since it is a vacation and time to treat yourself. I do plan to keep working out while there with running on the boardwalk and some body weight exercises. Any insight or help as to what you do is greatly appreciated!

I myself always try to log the best I can.
But we only eat out 1 meal a day and some times not that. We always find a store or a Costco and buy Breakfast and Lunch. Also I plan some easy meals for night if the place we have has a kitchen.

Oh how I would love a hotel room with a kitchen, lol. It's just myself and my husband so we get a small room for a good price. Breakfast seems to be the easiest to log because I usually get eggs, turkey sausage and wheat toast. If we go to a seafood restaurant, that can be tricky. I guess I'll have to run some extra miles just to be sure 🙂

Most rooms now a days have a fridge. That's where my breakfast lunch comes in.
cereal and milk for breakfast
Sandwich for lunch.
Milk and sandwich meat in fridge.......
Fresh fruit doesn't need refrigeration

@Onegative: It all depends what you want to do. If you want to enjoy your vacation and also don't want to stress too much on food log, just go with it. But be cautious, so that you would not regret after coming back from vacation.
Have a good vacation !

I think I may just go with it. By now I'm pretty good with knowing what I can and cannot eat although I do splurge a little. My hubby likes to sleep in so that's usually when I do my jogging and other exercise. Plus we do a lot of walking later in the day. Vacation is about having fun and relaxing. I don't want to be stressing over food.

I log my food on vacation, but its all about personal preference. I prefer to keep myself accountable, even if I know for sure I will be indulging. It serves as a reminder that I can't always have days like that.

Thank you. I believe I will be doing the same. Everything in moderation. Water and fruit is a must in between meals to help me stay on track.

I don't log using the Fitbit app (or any other, for that matter!).
My approach to logging my food is to use a food diary. It makes me think about whether I really need what I'm about to eat, or whether I simply want it.
On my recent holiday(:united_kingdom:)/vacation(:united_states:) I continued logging in my food diary, but made sure I had some meals that I wanted. A little bit of what you fancy is good for you!
Have a safe trip and a great holiday.

Yes, I did use the Food Log when we took a trip this past Christmastime. We ate at very few chain restaurants, so I faced the issue of not finding the exact food in the food library. Instead, I chose something that would be similar, from a listing from a chain restaurant, and hoped that was somewhat close. I read the menu carefully and asked waiters/waitresses some questions, and asked for a few considerations like either "no dressing", or "dressing on the side".
Our hotel did not offer a "free breakfast", but our room had a small refrigerator as well as a Keurig coffeemaker. I headed for the grocery store and bought fruit, oatmeal packets, and our favorite coffee in the pods (since the hotel wanted extra $ if you used more than the 2 they provided per day), as well as a small carton of sugar packets (for hubby) and a small bottle of Coffeemate. (I carry Equal packets everywhere I go.) I used the coffeemaker to get a cup of hot water for my oatmeal, and one of the hotel-provided cups as a "bowl".
I carry two other types of things on vacation with me, and stash one of each in my purse for use if the situation warrants it: fat free Italian dressing packet, and (if going out for breakfast), sugar free pancake syrup. Cracker Barrel has sugar-free pancake syrup, but none of the other places seem to have it available. I don't often order pancakes (too many carbs) but occasionally do so.
For family gatherings around Christmastime, I stuck to the protein-rich items (turkey and ham), and the vegetables. The rest, to me, were "no-no's". I nursed a can of diet soda (a rarity for me) to keep myself from wandering over to the fattening goodies.

I pay attention to what I'm eating but don't usually log. As a rule I stay away from those tropical drinks - disaster calorie-wise. I'm not saying I don't have any, just not many. I also try and make up for it with more exercise. I've come back from my last two vacations (1 week back at most) lighter than I left. I tend to go lower carb on vacation, with the exception of fruit. I avoid rice, pasta and potatoes at dinner. Not because of the carbs but they'll often add tons of sauces and fats when they cook them.
Of course, I need to add the disclaimer that I was well over 300 pounds during those vacations, so could take in quite a bit without worrying. That's something I'll have to watch as I continue to lose weight.
