What is the best thing to eat before bed? Bed time is between 9:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m and I ate dinner at 7:00 p.m. but now I am hungry.

I have often succumbed to cookies before bed, but I find the best thing to fill a hole is a slice of cheese. Nothing too tasty, just a bland cheddar does the job, with a glass of water.

Cherries contain melatonin -- they might not help you sleep but they won't make it more difficult to drop off!
Plain boiled rice, or a bowl of cereal with milk (cow or nut) are probably the best.

how about some of the leftovers from dinner? my snack last night was abut 1/2 cup roasted brussel sprouts that had been tossed with crumbled bacon, parmesan cheese, stone ground mustard and horseradish. delicious and quite filling!

I chew gum. It's sweet and satisfying and lasts until I'm ready to go to sleep. Takes my mind right off of snacking. Works for me.

There's nothing wrong with good ol' cookies and milk or a slice of cake. However it's a question of portion control. If you can't stop at 3-4 cookies or if the cake will keep calling to you, then you might have to find a lower calorie alternative. But I feel a snack at bedtime is fine.

A glass of warm soymilk before hitting the sack hits the spot.

I love fruit. Half a navel orange or a clementine - easy to portion, the fiber satisfies the hunger and you can't beat that sweetness. An small apple or a pear is nice, too. It is sweet, so you have to accomodate for that, but I tell myself that it's a healthy treat, since I love sweets. The big eye-opener for me is that I require only a little food to allievate actual hunger, to remove that physical discomfort.

I eat cottage cheese at night.
My understand is that it is full of caesin protein, which is slow digesting. I can easily sabotage my diet by eating late at night.
I've been eating a half cup late at night if I am hungry seems to solve the problem.
I will also eat walnuts late at night. I try to find a protein that will digest slowly so that I keep myself full. Follow that with a big glass of water.

I get hungry at night too and tend to have a sweeter tooth so go for a fruit. Bananas, I find, are filling or snacking on a small bunch of grapes. It's nice to have something sweet after dinner and if you pair it with a drink (glass of water or squash) then you should be set until bed 🙂

Greek Yoghurt w/ Cinnamon
OR
Casein (It basically drip feeds your muscles whilst you sleep, slow release protein)
OR
10-20 Almonds
Just avoid carbs at that time of night.

Ideally you shouldn't eat after 8:00 pm (if you are following the normal up during the day/not working third shift type of schedule). If you must have a snack, make it something healthy! Spicy roasted chickpeas are great, or just an apple. I've read that an apple (which is juicy, sweet/tart, and crunchy) doesn't appeal to you when you are hungry, then you aren't really hungry. You're just bored or eating out of habit.

I usually have a light 100 calorie snack at 8:30 and then just drink Chamomile tea for the rest of the night before going to bed. It great because the Chamomile is soothing also.
