As I was googling for the "CICO diet" (which I had never heard of as a diet, though I’m familiar with the concept of calories in vs. calories out), I stumbled upon a historical timeline of diet trends (2:51 YouTube video) that spans from the early 19th century to these days, and covers all kind of "fad diets". What to think of arsenic pills that claimed to "speed up metabolism", with side effects like blindness, liver failure and death . The video was made by Women’s Health magazine and referenced in this article.
