For all my meats, I use a food scale. For side dishes, salads, etc.. I use measuring cups and spoons.
A restaurant supply store has ladles (slotted and unslotted), spoon and scoops in cup sizes! You can get anything from an 1/8 c to a full cup size. Makes measuring out meals painless. You can always use a scale for protein but the palm thing works pretty well especially eating out. Once I began to recognize serving sizes, I can make a guesstimate that is really close to the actual amount.
