What can I take to work that is cheap, easy to make, filling and tastes good? I take my lunch every day but sandwhiches are full of calories and not very filling..

Sounds good but, no fridge or microwave. I usually eat on the go out of my lunchbox.
That does make it more difficult and limiting.

If you don't want to do sandwiches because of the bread you can make a lettuce wrap. I get them at Jimmy Johns sometimes or a low calorie wrap. I will also bring dinner leftovers to work. You could do that if you don't mind eating it cold. They do make thermos containers that will keep food hot. I have them and send them to school with my son when he wants soups or chili. I also bring salads in. If we have tacos for dinner I bring taco salad for lunch the next day. I try to cook a little extra at night so I can either use for me or my son as a lunch the next day.

Thank you for your great tips @jessieknj! I sometimes get tired of eating sandwiches so a lettuce wrap sounds like a great healthy substitute.
Any other ideas, let me know.

I take about a cup of lettuce, half a cucumber and some baked chicken with salsa in a container then dump the giant loas into a whole wheat tortilla. it is about 400 cal (180 of which is the tortilla and most of the rest in the chicken) without cheese, if I walk to work I add a bit of light old cheddar to bring it up to about 550cal. I have that with water and tea and I am absolutely stuffed.
Salsa is my secret weapon as it can make almost everything taste good (I do not even notice the whole wheat tortilla) and all it is is more vegetables. My other secret weapon is air popped popcorn I got my own popper for my birthday last year and you can have a large bowl full for 130 cal and instead of butter add some vinegar to a spray bottle and spray it on, with it lightly salted you have salt and vinegar popcorn for very little cal.
my other lunch is hard boiled eggs, veggies, and yogurt if it is on sale. I am on a very tight food budget and only cook for myself so it is tortillas all week if that is what I bought and that is wheat i am eating this week.

I usually cook half a box of pasta at the start of the week and put it in a big ziplock bag in the fridge.
Day of or night before I'll combine baby spinach, 1 cup of the pasta, 1/4 feta cheese in a container. Ill take a smaller container and put 2 tbs of light balsamic or light italian dressing. Lunch time ill add the dressing put the lid on my container, shake and eat.
I adapt this a little bit by switching the veggies, or subbing the cheese for deli meats/beans/ canned tuna or switching up the dressing.

I always prep my own salad containers for the week!
My obsession at the moment:
baby lettuces
fresh diced strawberries
goat cheese
a sprinkling of nuts (or some salmon or chicken if I have it leftover from dinner the night before)
homemade applecider vinagrette

when I'm ready to eat it

Hi there, have you tried thin ice packs for your lunch box? I use them and they work really well.
