Nightshades

Has anyone had success with GI/GERD issues by eliminating nightshades? If so, are there any good recipes you'd like to share? 🙂

Hi!  I have not tried that one yet!  But there is a book called The Paleo Approach which talks about nightshades - I have a copy of it.  There are lot's of good recipes there.  That might help!  I'm interested to know if it helps you.  If so, let me know and I'll try it too!

Honestly, this is the first time I hear that term. I have looked for some extra info and found this link that may be helpful and pretty much says:

Tomatoes, peppers, potatoes, and eggplant (as well as tobacco) all belong to the same botanical family, commonly known as the nightshades. The Latin name for this family of plants is Solanaceae, because all of them produce an alkaloid compound called solanine.

Yeah, I might have to take a look into this. Smiley Frustrated

Coming in late, but when I was having serious problems with acid reflux then a spoonful of apple cider vinegar helped every time I had a flare-up.  I know it sounds so very wrong, but it was a huge help.

And I had it pretty serious because I ended up in the ER, with them running tests to make sure I wasn't having a heart attack.  Morphine was the only thing that would cut the pain.  Yeah, that bad.  They put me on a PPI, which worked for a couple of days, then just ended up making it worse.  Just a spoonful of the apple cider vinegar worked wonders, and eventually it wasn't a problem anymore.  I have to use it maybe once a year or so now.

My mom, on the other hand, chose to treat hers with anatacids and has had ulcers twice, one time serious enough to be hospitalized, because she created the perfect environment for h. pylori to flourish.

Thought I would add to this discussion. I had Gerd for years and took a ppi every day to control it. Then I switched to a low carb diet and the gerd went away never to return. This was years ago. I still follow a low carb diet. PPI's, by lowering stomach acid, are known to cause a host of other problems.
