Hi, @FitbitRunner23, welcome to the community, it depends on what you are doing. Your device evaluates steps from your arm movement. These articles may be of interest How accurate are Fitbit devices? and How to make your fitness tracker count steps more accurately - The Verge .
You can edit out steps if required How do I add, edit, or delete Fitbit data and activities? .
I hope this helps.
Cheers

I do want to point out that on Android(not sure about Apple) that if you if give the fitbit app location permission all the time and the physical activity permission, just putting your phone in your pocket, it will count steps without arm movement because the device is using position gps location data so it makes your tracker much more accurate. if its not connected to your phone with these allowed permissions it falls back to arm movement. I hav emy phone in my pocket all the time anyways or strapped on my arm in a case when i go run so its 100% accurate for me. All my steps and dieting have resulted in a consistent rate of loss as i would expect.
just so you know the Fitbit Inspire 3 is more accurate than the Galaxy Watch 5 44mm that is currently sitting on my desk collecting dust, never buying another WearOS watch thats for sure!

I noticed that when I play accordion, each arm movement counts as a step. I think that the important thing is movement/activity. Once I noticed that, I started standing and walking around while playing, rather than just sitting. At least that way it's a bit more accurate. 🙂
