How do I stop my Inspire 3 from receiving Gmail notifications?

I have a brand new Inspire 3 and I cannot get the GMail notifications to stop being sent. I only want to receive notifications for calls, texts & a couple other apps. I have already visited the notifications section & disabled the email option. When I enable it, GMail is not listed in the apps which can be marked as the default app. Under the separate "app notifications" option, GMail does not appear either. I do want to receive GMail notifications on my phone, just not on my tracker because I receive way too many.  Anyone else having this issue?
