Inspire 3 - How do I make my steps more accurate?

Hi, I (20F) just got the Fitbit Inspire 3 for Christmas, and I feel like it’s not the most accurate. I only ever had cheaper step trackers when I was a kid. I know obviously it’s not going to perfect but i literally checked my steps before and after washing my hands and it said I’d take steps in the time that I was in the bathroom. But I also know that it’s only been a few days so it might be adjusted to my body specifically. I just wanted to know everyone’s tips and tricks to either have the steps more accurately tracked or how much they minus from the steps amount at the end of the night. I do really love it and am very excited when I hit my step goals, I just worry that maybe I’m not actually hitting them?

Hi @jaksaendo, welcome to our Community, have a nice year!

I hope you are enjoying your new device, let me recommend the following article for you to know some recommendations to improve the working of the feature: How do I track my steps with Fitbit with my phone?

And as you are a new user of the Inspire 3 you could check if everything in the set up process was correctly done following the article: How do I set up my Fitbit device?

Hi @jaksaendo   Fitness trackers can overcount and undercount steps, depending on the circumstances.  Things like washing your hands can count false steps. At the other extreme, your arm doesn't swing when you push a cart.  You will get no steps pushing a shopping cart.  People who use their hands as part of their job/hobby (hair stylists, drummers, etc.) can get lots of false steps.

If you wear your Inspire 3 on your non-dominant wrist, you can change its sensitivity.  Tap on your device/battery icon in the upper left of the Fitbit app. then your Inspire 3 tile.  Scroll down to Device preferences and change the setting to dominant (but keep wearing it on your non-dominant).

This will help, but there is no way for anyone to get an exact, perfect step count.
