Before I leave for work in the morning I put my Fitbit inspire 3 on as I go out the door. My car is only 15 steps from the door then I have an hour drive to work. By the time I get to work it says I’ve burned 400 calories and down 404 steps. I know this is not possible as I was sitting down for an hour!!! And on my treadmill it takes an hour of brisk waking before 300 calories are burned!
This was a gift but I’m ready to return it. I have it on my non dominate wrist but with dominant wrist setting on.
Moderator edit: clarified subject.

Welcome to the forums @Juliemcmc
Thank you for sharing the details regarding your Inspire 3.
I understand your point of view and I'm sorry for the inconvenience this has caused you. Do you have MobileTrack installed on the Fitbit app? This feature allows you to record basic stats such as steps using your phone's sensors. That might be the reason why you receive an incorrect amount of steps.
Assuming this is correct, I'd recommend removing it by doing the following:
Regarding calories, remember that the device will record colories even if you are not using the tracker, an those correspond to the basal metabolic rate (BMR), which is the rate at which you burn calories at rest just to maintain vital body functions like breathing, heartbeat, and brain activity. This is estimated based on the physical data you entered when you set up your account: sex, age, height, and weight. Make sure that all the information in your account settings is correct.
If you do feel that the amount of calories burned is too high based on your personal setting, please try to restart your watch following these steps, and check if you continue to experience any trouble.

The fitbit often measures arm movements as steps so say steering the wheel or changing gears or even vibrations from the car or going over a speedbump can make the Fitbit register a step or 2.
I have the app connected on the phone but not the phone itself and still get text notifications.
