Inspire 3 is losing steps every time I sync

Has anyone had this happen…I walked for a half hour on the treadmill and it said my steps were over 3,000.

I synced my Fitbit and before my eyes the steps went down to 1,000. So I synced it again and the steps went down to 500! It said I only got 56 steps  for my half hour of walking! This is the third time it’s done this

Hi, @M408 , welcome to the community, may I suggest you try restarting your "Inspire 3"? Update, Restart, and Erase explains the process. In addition, visit your online dashboard to check how many steps are recorded there compared with the app on your phone.

I hope this helps but if you are still stuck please post here again.

Cheers

Hello. I’m desperate to find a tracker that will count steps whilst walking on the spot holding on to chair back etc. I wonder if you can help please. Thank you. dolly

Hi, @Dolly1am , welcome to the community. Step counting/detection is a complicated process that primarily depends on the evaluation of your arm movement. Fitbit devices use a 3-axis accelerometer to count your steps. Pushing a buggy or shopping trolly while holding the handles is not detected (but if you are typing or driving a car you get lots). I think you will find that most activity trackers use the same process. You may find this third-party article of interest How to make your fitness tracker count steps more accurately - The Verge

There is a treadmill setting but it will not count steps unless you let your arm swing freely, you could try using this while walking on the spot but holding on with one hand, allowing the arm with your device on to swing freely. I appreciate this may not be a satisfactory answer.

I hope this helps.

Cheers

Many thanks for this advise. I did try clip on but still didn’t record so given it someone to try out. Also strapped the wrist one to good leg but no good either. I shall just have to count in my head - but might fall asleep as it’s like count sheep 😂. Son ow using that one. Thanks again

Mowing  the lawn detects steps while holding the handle.  I assume that's due to the constant  jiggling.  I  don't know how accurate the step count is though.
