Hello Inspire 3 users & Fitbit Staff,
Many of had noted the change in the sleep algorithm back in the summer of 2025.
That merged awake and restless time into awake time, causing a drastic degrading of sleep scores.
I was able to work around that issue by just deleting the auto-recorded sleep data and manually entering my start & finish times to re-create my known in-bed, “sleep-ready” interval.
That worked until about 2 weeks ago (early December 2025).
But now, even doing that work-around is now yielding at least 1 extra hour of awake time.
Which is totally messing up my other metrics, esp. the long-term trends, which I use to monitor the effects of changes in sleep routine & hygiene, etc.
i have also been tracking my sleep with the SleepOn GoToSleep finger device for over 10 years, as well.
And that data had been very consistent with my various Fitbit devices for those 10 years.
That is, until June 2025, and now (again) in December 2025, even with the manually-entered sleep “book-ends.”
So, my question for other Fitbit users & staff (& Google?) is this: what changed (behind the curtain?) earlier this month and why?
Clearly, “improving” sleep tracking by adding an extra hour of “unconscious but awake time” is not helpful to any of us long-term users, who have a pretty good sense of our sleep patterns.
And esp. those (like me) who also use a back-up 2nd device, that now diverges significantly (again) from Fitbit’s sleep stats.
Thanks for any comments or advice.
Best,
Mark
PS: if this “new & improved” sleep data is being used to inform national sleep survey polls Re how sleep-deprived we all are, or to drill down on sleep differentials among the different Fitbit user demographic groups, I believe it will turn out to be a case of GIGO…
