Sleep mode recording vs getting up for water, bathroom, .....

I just a thought but if I think about how many hours it told me I was sleepingin the past 2 days (got my Inspire 3 about 3 days ago), the times it tells me I slept kinda match when I woke up to go to the bathroom.

Sooooo, that got me thinking.  What does Fitbit thinks if it knows we are sleeping but then detects we get up for 2-20 minutes?

Does it thinks we no longer want to sleep and cancels the sleep mode recording?

Or maybe this is the bug causing the sleep mode to record the wrong amount of sleeping hours?

I haven't noticed or thought of looking but when you get up during your sleep, does it actually records your steps?

So many questions about this waking up to see if this is what is affecting the sleep mode recording ....

Anyone noticed when they woke up in the middle of your sleep if it kinda matches how long it says you slept?

Yes, I noticed this too! And it's not consistent, I mean once I got up to use the bathroom and took 10 minutes to go back to sleep and it just noted I was awake for 15 minutes. But last night I woke up due to one of my cats stepping on me, never got out of bed and went right back to sleep for 4 more hours, and it says that was the end of my sleep for the night.

I did notice it's been happening recently. I also noticed that the times it has cut off, I used the Fitbit to check the time. I either tapped it or shook my wrist. I wondered if maybe "activating" the device was what signaled I was awake.

Hello, just got my Fitbit Inspire 3, the sleep tracking being an important feature for me and having good review. However the same thing happened to me and it recorded 1h48 sleep (until I got up very briefly for a bathroom break), then, nothing! And yes, it did record the few steps during the night. Quite annoyed by this, really!

Last night I decided to ware my Inspire 3 on my right hand. I had a surgery 3 years ago needing to remove the main vein on my left arm.  I thought this might affect Inspire to read things.

But, sleep mode tracking did not corretly reported my ending sleep.  It again said my whole sleep was less then 2 hours when it was over 7 hours.  That time I got up for the bathroom was after that reported 2 hours, so no relations.

It also reported that yesterday that I slept between 1 and 2 PM when I was actually at home working.  I was waring it on my left arm.

Okay, I looked into this a little further yesterday, and reached out to tech support (both on chat here, and on DMs on X [formerly Twitter]) and there were some suggestions. Both of them suggested to make sure the Fitbit is worn 2-3 finger widths above the wrist bone on the non-dominant hand, and to make certain that sleep mode is set to sensitive as opposed to normal. Chat help also suggested to restart my Fitbit. I restarted my Fitbit yesterday, and double-checked my settings and adjusted my strap.

This morning, my sleep was recorded much more accurately. It showed that I was asleep from 1AM until 5:33AM, at which point I woke to use the bathroom. It shows I was awake until 5:38AM. I went back to bed, but the Fitbit is missing time until about 7AM, when it shows a second round of sleep from 7:08AM until 10:08AM, which is more or less aaccurate. So, not perfect, but a definite improvement in the reading!

I modify the setting to "sensitive", and it seems to have helped. One thing that I noticed this morning, and maybe worth mentioning: I think it takes a little while after getting up for the algorithm to calculate details of your night. So, if you check directly after getting up, you get wrong data. For example, this morning, just after getting up, I've got a night of 1h04 sleep, which was obviously wrong. But a little while later, I checked again, and got 6h sleep (which is right).

That's right, happens regularly to me, or some reason, the algorithm needs some time to figure out a polyphasic sleep.
