Hi guys, I have a question about step counting and calories (as they're related I guess).
My boyfriend and I have the fitbit inspire 3. We got them at the same time and set them up at the same time etc. I'm wondering how the step tracking works though, I get that calorie burning depends on current weight and height and exercise etc. But the steps?? For example, yesterday we spent the whole day together. We walked to the same places (next to each other so presumably at the same pace), we ubered to the same places (not moving or walking etc). However, at the end of the day my steps were at 9k and he was on 22k! How is that possible? I know he walks slower than I do, but how in the world is it more than double of mine?? Especially when we were walking next to each other! It infuriates me lol but I can't understand if it's just gender differences or what? Because if the fitbit was correct, he would be losing weight really fast etc. We're both tracking calories for what we eat (healthy school year start) and none of this makes sense! Please can someone dumb down the maths or confirm that it's just because of the gender differences.. thank you!

Hi @moraa2 this article - click to read - explains how the steps are calculated. I know that for me, I tend to put my hands in my pocket or hold something in my hand which keep my step count lower. If you move your hands about when talking, the steps will be higher. No two people are alike, but that is a big difference. Do you both put your Fitbits on at the same time? I have a friend who won't put their Fitbit on until they are dressed and ready to go out and they don't put it on after a shower - both limit the hours they are actually using it.
