Is there a way to view your heart rate while in the exercise mode? When it auto starts / detects the run, there is no heart rate display. I tried swiping but it's never an option to display.

@Tomtherunner I would suggest always starting the workout from your watch first for the most accurate and reliable tracking.
Your heart rate should be available to view when you start a walk or run. You’ll probably need to tap the screen to cycle through the other options like pace, average pace, etc. I can always see my heart rate when I exercise. It looks like this:
