Hey everyone! I’m a complete newbie here and have ordered my first Fitbit over eBay. I got a brand new Fitbit Alta (I know that the Alta series is super old….but I loved the sleekness of the device)
My question is I keep seeing people complain that Google is killing Fitbit. Is it true? What are some of the bad impacts these smartwatches have taken after Google’s entry? Is it less appealing products, less robustness etc.?

Hi, @koletmo6 , well, you can judge for yourself with your new Fitbit. Undoubtedly Google have made some changes and I guess whether these are for the better or worse is a matter of opinion!
One thing I will say is that the Alta is a very VERY old device in electronic devices terms and even though it has been sold to you as “brand new” it is very likely that the battery will have significantly deteriorated. Although you may not have many initial issues, I am guessing that you are unlikely to get the advertised battery life of 5-7 days, and, of course, there will be no warranty.
As for sleek design, if you eventually decide to upgrade from the old Alta I think you will really like the much newer Inspire 3, which is actually slightly smaller and I would say sleeker than the old Alta, with many updated features.
Good luck, and let us know how it goes with your new Alta. Welcome to the Community Forums!

I like them. I have tried others but seem to return. Various models. Old or new, they work for me.
Sleep tracking is fine for me: I do not tap the watch in the middle of the night and I set display to manual so it doesn't light when I flip my wrist - because I have found that both of these would tell Fitbit that I am awake and messes with its sleep logging.

Hi @koletmo6. Based on other user posts, Fitbit removed all firmware updates from its Legacy models two years ago. You might get an Update Tracker notice, but you can't update your tracker. Other users wrote that they have trouble syncing a Legacy device when they have a Google account (not an older Fitbit account).
