fitbit app shows I reached challenge but erased daily steps

My inspire 3 alerted me when I reached the 20k challenge. It initially showed up on my phone after syncing but an hour later it cut my miles to 14k.  Same thing happened the next day.  Both days are still listed as earning the challenge. The following day my inspire alerted me i’d reached 10k which also initially synced but an hour later showed only 7k.

I use only one fitbit and the app on one phone.  I’ve tried deleting and reloading the app to my phone.  I don’t want to lose the data by erasing as has been recommended here.

Im ready to switch to another brand of device

Hi, @DrHeidi , have you made sure that your phone is not acting as a separate step counter and overwriting the steps detected by your Fitbit?  This could either happen because your phone is also set up to be a step counter in the Fitbit app (more information about that here ) or possibly that your Fitbit app is connected to another app (e.g. Strava, MyFitnessPal, Weight Watchers, etc) that is using the steps from your phone to calculate activity and then writing that activity to Fitbit and overwriting the steps detected by your tracker.
