30min to 45min as default setting for Sleep tracking

Hi developers!

I had Fitbit Ionic for about two month, and it works perfectly except automatic sleep tracking doesn't work with me. I've been contact with customer support and also changed clock for THREE TIMES. At least I am sure the problem is not in the clock. Then I changed clock with my wife, and automatic sleep tracking works well with her, and her Garmin Vivoactive 3 also works sleep tracking with me.(The Vivoactive 3's result was I had long period light sleeps) I really like this Ionic, but if the sleep feature works, I would be much happier. Sleep tracking feature is very important for me, so if this problem cannot solve in 6 weeks, maybe I will change to Vivoactive 3...

So I contacted customer support, and they suggest me to write my development hope in this community. I hope someone could have or had same problem with me.

Actually, the problem might be in Ionic default settings, because it has been set that "when user doesn't move for more than an hour, then the Ionic will assume user is sleeping". That one hour might be too long for me, and I feel somehow challenging without moving during my sleep. As a mechanical engineer, I suggest that 30min to 45min as default setting would be a good detect range. Well, it also would be nice if user can choose how long for him/her suites the best, because not everyone can sleeps same style, and some of us have problems with sleeping. I think Fitbit as a manufacturer, might know much more than me. 🙂 Please help me!! Thank you!

Welcome to the Fitbit Community @SunsetRunner! Thanks for reporting this. Also, thanks for contacting customer support and for trying all of those steps in order to sort this out.

I'd recommend checking the following that could be preventing you from receiving sleep stages:

  • If you slept in a position that prevented your device from getting a consistent heart-rate reading or wore it too loosely. For best results, wear your device higher on your wrist (about 2-3 finger widths above your wrist bone). The band should feel secure but not too tight.
  • If you used the "Begin Sleep Now" option in the Fitbit app (instead of simply wearing your device to bed).
  • If you slept for less than 3 hours.
  • If your device’s battery is critically low.

For more information about why you see your sleep pattern, tap or click the sleep record that shows your sleep pattern.

In regards to change the sleep detection length, for anything else you would like to see implemented in the future, consider visiting our Feature Suggestions board. This is a space where Community users can post features, ideas, and suggestions that they'd like to see in future Fitbit products, accessories, and software and top-voted suggestions get relayed to our product team for review.

We're constantly striving to improve Fitbit products and services, and we very much appreciate all of the input we receive from our customers.

Our product team looks forward to reading and incorporating your suggestions into future versions of Fitbit trackers and apps.

Let me know if there's anything else I may assist you with.

Dear Maria,

I've been tried all of your suggestions. Unfortunately, it didn't work. So I strongly suggest developer team to make a firmware update where can change the sleep detection length of sleep tracking. User should be able to change the sleep detection length. For example from 1 hour to 20 minutes.

I'm sorry, your suggestion will not fix the software problem!

Support confirmed several times that there is a software problem.

And unfortunately not solved until now.

You can see with clock face "Heart Beats" and Ionic-app HR Graph always heart beats.

No data gap, but on Fitbit side is a gap.

Ask support for detail where, when and which data are missing. They can't answer!

That's very bad.

You can find a lot of claims about missing sleep stages for all Fitbit product in all communities.

They changed the algorithm in March, because until then I have had sleep stages!

After the update non!

So software problems can only be fixed with the correct problem.

Same for the strange Bluetooth connection. Than the don't need compatibility list.

Bluetooth is a standard protokoll!

Unfortunately they are also released the not-active sensors.

Maybe one day!

End!Now free time!

My Iconic does not track sleep for 2 hours after I go to bed. I made 3 calls to support before they replaced it but the new watch does the same thing.  My other problem was that it was recording 1300 to 1800 steps at about 4 am but I don't get up until 6, the new one does not do that.  I have gone back to using my Blaze which works perfectly. I really don't want to go through all the hassle with support again and have been putting it off.
