My Fitbit ionic isn't charging at all and is completely dead. I've had it about a year. Is this normal?

Thanks for bringing this to my attention. To better assist you with this, can you please let me know if the heart rate sensors of your Ionic are still flashing or is your device completely unresponsive? If you haven't already done so, I recommend you to check our help article: Why isn't my battery charging on my Fitbit device? and let me know how it goes. Such article includes a restart process which can be really helpful for this situation.

I learned online if I hold the left bottom and the bottom right button until the fitbit icon appears, it will restart. Phew!

You're correct, you can restart your device with the buttons of your device and from the display too. That being said, can you please let me know if you're still experiencing issues with your Ionic or after restarting your device the issue was resolved?
