Brand new Ionic does not do anything

Hi,

I just bought a Fitbit Ionic. I connected it to the charging cable for two hours. Only the Fitbit logo was visible on the screen (no indication about charging). After pressing the left and bottom button the screen went dark and nothing has happened after that (tried pressing and holding all button combinations)

Is this a broken device? Has it passed quality control?

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but the Ionic is plagued with problems and they typically don't last. If I were you I would get a different watch.

Sorry @ReinoudvLeeuwen your confusing me, you say that your ionic isn't doing anything then say that you see the Fitbit logo. I'll assume it also displays a link to the Fitbit setup app. Your seeing exactly what you should be seeing. As long as you felt a vibration when plugging the Ionic in   everything is good.

The battery charge indicator will not show up until the tracker has been setup and the firmware installed.

No your assumption is wrong. The screen only displays the logo. Nothing more. No link to anything. The app on my phone cannot find it. I've pressed all three buttons for 12 seconds and now the screen is black. That was the only interaction that worked.

There has not been any vibration. Ever.

All manuals I found write that the charge indicator should be displayed right after the charging cable is connected and confirmed with a vibration. If those are wrong, please fix them.

You never get a second chance to a first impression. If this is intended behaviour, maybe Fitbit should look at Apple products.

I've ordered a replacement watch. This is just an expensive brick

Correct, the watch is just waiting to fail.  People whom are under some pretense that things are good with their ionics no matter how far along they are before or after their warranty are going to be faced with it dying sooner than later unfortunately.  I have two sisters who also owned Ionics and neither of theirs made it a year. They aren't the types to visit forums so they just bought Apple watches unfortunately before even getting a replacement. I guess in some ways they were smart.

We are getting to a point now where the amount of Ionics that fail are going to start hitting record heights because of the times they've spent on the market.

Pressong the left and lower right is the restart procedure, but there is no procedure that requires the user to only press all the buttons.

tried it; does not work. It's a brick

I was ordered to do the three button reset by a support engineer on the phone. I could not find that procedure anywhere on the Internet.

This morning I replaced the watch, now I have a unit that seems to be working (and I now understand the link you mentioned, the faulty one did only display the logo and nothing else).

Thanks for all your suggestions

With a standard restart the third button will do nothing.

How do I restart my Fitbit device?

Troubleshoot a problematic device by turning it off and then back on
This is called a soft restart.
To properly do a hard restart requires the Ionic to be shutdown.

There is a factory restore procedure that starts with holding in all three buttons.
