Have you gone through the setup process via the app? If so, were there any problems? The fitbit symbol should go once the setup process is complete.

Have you checked that your phone is supported by fitbit at www.fitbit.com/devices ?

That's not sounding good - you've pretty much tried all the normal things. The only other thing I can think of is that nearby bluetooth devices might be interfering. Anything you can do to minimize that risk would be good.
