Calories rising even when not wearing

I had my Fitbit ionic off for a bit and the calories went up.

I used to have the Fitbit inspire 2 and it allowed you the option to say whether it was on your wrist or on a clip, is this possible with the Ionic?

The calories when you are not wearing it are you BMR (basal metabolic rate) calories that you are always burning just to stay alive.  They are always credited, even when you are not wearing it.

Before posting, re-read to see if it would make sense to someone else not looking at your Fitbit or phone.
