Counting steps incorrectly

It doesn’t count steps correctly because just moving my arm while standing still counts as a step.   What can I do?

You're looking for a setting on which hand You're wearing your tracker on - dominant or non-dominant.

The setting is called "Wrist" and You can find it after clicking settings and then on the Ionic symbol.

Hello @Catz3, it's good to see you around in the forums for the first time.

Thank you for your inquiry regarding the accuracy of steps. Before considering other options, please check the information provided here on why you may be getting some extra steps sometimes. You can change the dominant hand option in your settings as well:

  • The dominant wrist setting decreases the sensitivity of step counting and should reduce any over counting of steps when your body is not moving.
  • The non-dominant wrist setting increases the sensitivity of step counting and should reduce any under counting of steps. Non-dominant is the default.

If you consider that you're still getting incorrect number of steps, try performing a restart on your watch.

Thank you for this information @SunsetRunner and @WendyBSmiley Happy

I hope this helps, please keep me posted.

I have restarted my ionic and it’s still not counting correct steps. It has just frozen. My watch is only 2 days old.

I only own my iconic about week.  I wish I could help but I don't know.   Maybe go back to the store you bought it from.

Thank you anyway. I have found that it only counts steps when you swing your arm. Well that’s what happens with mine anyway. Do you find the same?
