My fitbit ionic is doing auto steps count without me doing anything on it. It just count each and every steps by itself

Hi @wongks welcome to the Community Forums, thanks for your post.

Let me share with you that Fitbit devices have a finely-tuned algorithm for step counting, that algorithm is designed to look for intensity and motion patterns that are most indicative of people walking and running. When working at a desk, cooking, or performing other activities with arm movements, a device on your wrist may add some steps. When you’re doing activities that involve arm movement—such as working or cooking—you often walk a few steps in-between stationary periods as well, so the device tries to give you credit for those steps.

For most users, the number of extra steps added by arm-based movement isn’t significant when compared to your overall stats. For more information, please check: How does my Fitbit device count steps?

I'll be around if you need further assistance. Let me know if you have any additional questions.

This is a very big disappointment for me; phantom step counting. Arm movement is triggering significant bogus step counts. It counts steps even when sleeping. Want ot meet your step goal in a hurry? Try shaking a martini with the Ionic arm. Any activity that uses the Ionic arm results in step credits that aren't earned. My Surge never had these issues. Are there any updates or ways to eliminate this issue? I'm very unhappy with this product.

@wongks You're welcome, thanks for clarifying this. If you haven't already done so, I recommend you to restart your Fitbit device with the steps that are specified on: and let me know if the issue persist.

@bhambay48 Thanks for sharing your thoughts and personal experience with your Fitbit Ionic, sorry for the inconvenience you are experiencing with. My best advise will be to check our help article: How accurate are Fitbit devices? for more information related to step-count accuracy.
