Distance does not correlate with treadmill/distance run

I am training for a half marathon so I'm trying to be more specific with distance and time. Yesterday I ran on the treadmill which clocked 8kms, but my fitbit recorded 7kms.  Again the day previously I did a road run which I was certain was 6kms and my Fitbit Ionic logged it as 5kms.  Has anyone else experienced this and have a solution for the discrepancy?

On phone app, if you have new app, tap your picture near top left on home page.  If still on older app version, tap Account icon near top right that looks like drivers license.

That takes you to Account page.  Scroll way down almost to bottom for 'Advanced Settings', then at bottom is 'Stride Length'.  Turn off 'Set automatically'.  Note there is separate stride length for Walking and Running.

If don't want to bother measuring, just multiplying your running stride length times (8/7) should get you closer; then could fine tune from there to match distance treadmill says.

Probably your running stride length is set too short.  Treadmill distance is calculated as number of steps times stride length.

Fitbit makes a guess as to your stride length but you can adjust that to get it more accurate.

Thank you for your reply.  I haven't been able to find a way to adjust the stride (using both the app and the dashboard).  I cannot find an Advanced Settings option.
