Does Ionic receive audio cues when exercising?

If I start a run from the Ionic watch, can I both see live stats on the watch and hear distance audio notifications?

My Charge 2 is near the end of its life so I'm looking for a replacement. It's served me well, but one frustration I had with it is if I start a run from the watch it will show live stats (distance, pace, etc.) but won't give the periodic audio notifications (the ones that tell you your time, distance, etc. every so often). On the other hand, if I start a run from the app on my phone I'll get the audio notifications, but no live stats on the device. I would really like to get both. I talked to support about this in the past and the recommended solution was to start a run on the app and the watch and have them both going at the same time, but that's not optimal because then it records them both as separate workouts and I need to remember to go back and delete one of them.

Does this feature work on the Ionic? (I'm also curious if it works that way with the Versa Lite, so if you happen to know that as well, that would be great!)

Thanks!

@inejwstine A warm welcome to the Community. I'll be happy to clarify your inquiry about audio notifications while exercising.

When you're exercising with Ionic you could set cues. This will make your watch vibrate when you have reached it. However, this won't be an audio cue. Since, Fitbit Ionic has built-in GPS, the MobileRun option won't merge the stats.

If you would like to buy the Versa Lite, you'll be able to use connected GPS and receive audio cues from the app. You shouldn't receive duplicate exercises when exercising with this. Learn more about it by checking this article: How do I use GPS on my Fitbit device?

@inejwstine   The Ionic itself doesn't have the ability to transmit audio cues, but I think it can give you vibration cues during your run.  I do need to say that I don't have an Ionic on my account right now.  I have a Versa 2.  But I hope these settings are available for an Ionic, because they exist for my Versa 2.  Here's the catch -- you make them from your fitbit.com (web) dashboard.

Here are the steps (if they exist for an Ionic):

  • Go to fitbit.com from any browser and log in
  • Click on the Gear in the upper right, then click on Ionic
  • If it exists, go to Exercise Cues and personalize your settings

I am going out on a limb here.  I hope this works for you and I don't do a face plant off the branch.
