Before I buy a fitbit Ionic does it display speed whilst running instead of pace? This is a deal breaker as I would never have bought the surge if I knew it didn't

No it only shows pace. However if you put it on bike then it tells you the average speed and max speed at which you were traveling.

Thanks for that I will look for a new device that has this function. Obviously fitbit don't listen to their customers

I really don't understand how a serious runner might prefer speed rather than pace.

Personal preference. I am not a serious runner but I like having the option of both at hand. Many people do and other sports watches offer this.

Currently, the Ionic does not offer speed. However, you can go to the "Features And Suggestions" board and vote for the idea.
