Download music to my Ionic - not again

Dear members,

I cannot believe I am here with this problem: I bought a new macbook and I wanted to download again Fitbit Connect to manage my music on my Ionic. Simple? No way! Impossible to find a working link in any post of the community. I started a chat  with the fitbit assistant and I am finally given a link to download an old version that still needs the use of an USB dongle (version 1.something...).... In my previous Mac I had this version: No dongle, Fitbit Connect 2.0.2.7241.

At the end of the conversation the kind operator tells me to buy the dongle or call apple for support, it is clearly an issue with the bluetooth of the Laptop. Interesting and respectable opinion...

Let me highlight some points: I enjoy my ionic (I upgraded after various other models like charge, versa) but I have always found cumbersome the way you have to upload music, I cannot believe that fitbit cannot come with something more user friendly...

Anyway, it was working, now I have bought a new macbook and the problems started.

No possibility to find a direct link to download the fitbit connect software, not even in the fitbit website; the community is full of entries reporting the problem, but obviously nobody took it seriously.

So, I decided to contact the support via the chat and I got finally a link to download this old version that would not work without a dongle... I think this is a joke.

So, I please ask anyone of good will to please help me to solve this issue: I want to install fitbit connect on my new macbook air (OS 11.2.3) so that I can continue listen to the music on my ionic.
Can anyone help me? I do not want to have to change device for this silly problem!!!

thank you so much for any help.

Kind regards

@Mano62   I successfully put my music on to my Versa 2.  But I use a Versa 3 now.  I'm answering from previous experience.  The Fitbit Connect software from www.fitbit.com/setup is the current version.  It's the version I used to transfer my music, but I was using OS Catalina.  I don't know if Big Sur made transfer impossible.  I'm sorry that the tech told you that you need a dongle.  You don't.  Music transfer is done using wi-fi.  Have you seen Fitbit's YouTube video?   I hope it's a refresher course for you and you get your music back.  There are other tutorials on YouTube, too.

You DON'T want to upgrade your device to solve this problem.  The Versa 3/Sense don't let you transfer your personal music.  It seems that Fitbit's solution to clunky music transfer was to get rid of it, not improve it.

Please get back, especially if this works.  This is the advice I have been giving to users who ask for help.  I will stop giving it if it doesn't work.

Thank you so much for your message. I was nearly going to give up when I decided to have another talk with the fitbit chat and this time I must have been lucky, I got a nice assistant that in 30 seconds sent me the link to download the fitbit connect version I had on my previous mac. It installed perfectly I can connect to the my ionic immediately.

Amazing, what a different service you can get!!!

Anyway it is still crazy that an open link for downloading fitbit connect is not available in the fitbit website. if you try the link they suggest takes to a general page...

thank also for the advice not to upgrade to Sense; I was thinking about it, but if the music cannot be downloaded then I will skip it.

I just cannot be believe that they cannot come up with an easier way to transfer your own music...

Have a wonderful afternoon.

@Mano62   I'm happy that you were able to get Fitbit Connect and you're back in business with your own music.  It's weird that you mentioned going to a "general" page.  The link I put in my post and the one from the Fitbit Help article both work for me.  A few months ago, the link English version for Canada was broken, but the French version was fine.  And that first tech had things all kinds of wrong.  That dongle is a Bluetooth device.  Users needed it if their laptop/desktop didn't have the right Bluetooth version.  It was never used for transferring music.

Again, I'm happy that you have your music again.  I'll keep using this same advice if other users ask.
