The GPS never updates to show distance, it shows a satellite icon and “Searching” for the entire use of the app rather than showing the distance.

 

Before the update it showed Distance, then Time, then Pace. Now “Searching”, Time, Pace.

Found out the answer through trial and error. You have to start and pause the run activity. Wait until the satellite connects, then start your run. Otherwise it will continuously search.

It provides lap updates at the half mile and shows a final distance, but never current distance while using the exercise app.
