Explain autorun?

Every time I go for a run, after a few strides the Ionic shows me a screen saying that it will automatically start the run app. There is a double arrow sort of icon on the bottom right of the screen and when I press it (or press the corresponding hardware button), the screen goes black and then I see the watch face after a minute or two--not the run exercise app.

How do I get it to auto-start the run? Should I just leave it alone?

This post needs answering because I'm having the same problem.

I just got done with a run that automatically started tracking.

After I was finished I hit the bottom right arrow and the same thing happen.

Blinked out.  Now it won't show my day of exercise on the 'weekly exercise' category.

@KhalidB, @KingChristos, the Ionic User Manual, page 39, suggests that Run Detect automatically starts and stops without any interaction.  I have not tried it, but you may want to check out the description and  suggested settings in the manual:

Where is the support system to answer the simple question?

http://contact.fitbit.com is the place to go for other avenues of Fitbit support. This is a primarily user forum (with staff moderation) and you’re asking a question that it looks like users don’t have enough experience to answer yet.

The auto run behavior you described is exactly what I got using the regular firmware.  After installing the SDK firmware (beta 2), which is newer, auto run worked just like a manually started Exercise app run, except for a minute or so of GPS tracking at the start not recorded.

I’m not suggesting that you sign up as a developer but rather wait for a regular firmware update, which we can only hope is not too far off.

Thank you Jim.  In other words Fitbit is selling a 300 dollar watch with one of its main selling features not working correctly.  No wonder there are so few takers on the question.

I am having this problem too.  Initially automatic run detection was working, but the screen would crash and not allow me to finish the activity.  I emailed support, who suggested a factory reset.  I was reluctant, after all the hassle I had setting it up in the first place (and indeed it took me a couple of hours to get it set up again).  Now auto run doesn't work at all, just like you I find that it says "starting exercise app" indefinitely and if I press anything it just goes back to the watch face and nothing is tracked.
