Does anyone know how to reset the ionic back to factory settings? I’m sending my £300 Watch back. For something that cost a lot money it doesn’t count my steps while pushing a pushchair (Apple Watch does) not all of us mums can stay fit childless. Not impressed and the gps didn’t even work this morning while out on a walk. Very annoying

From the manual:
"Factory reset Ionic to erase apps and all personal data from the device, including credit and debit cards you added for Fitbit Pay. If you want to give Ionic to another person or wish to return it for a refund, first complete a factory reset: On Ionic, open the Settings app ( ) > About > Factory Reset."

My factory reset attempt failed, and now I have a screen with a big red X that reads " Data not cleared Sync & try again". But I can't sync or do anything else with the watch. Any suggestions?

Yeah, the pebble also did too, count when you were grocery shopping. I keep thinking FitBits are for the more fit than I, but maybe we will get there.

Did any of you have success.? My Ionic stopped logging sleep and activity HR. After going through all of the suggestions including un-pairing I have not been able to add as a new device. The watch was displaying all of its typical activity including HR pulses but never sync or pair.. It always found the device and giving the 4 digit code and then failing to communicate.
Part of my testing allowed me to create a multi user environment with my Blaze, Surge and One and all working perfectly.
Then I tried to add the Ionic on the Android, Windows 10 and the iPad.... All failed. So I told myself if I get a swap out I may as well try a factory reset.. That failed with the big red X....
BUT, amazingly that has allowed me to start adding the Ionic as a new device on the iPad.. Probably about 30 minutes, with 9 minutes remaining.
I will keep you posted..

Success... In 25 minutes the setup on the iPad worked and minimum effort in checking my settings. The factory reset didn't work but freed up something to allow me to setup and again download the firmware. . I have checked all of my settings and the Ionic is syncing and the other multi paired Fitbits are accurate.
Tonight I test the sleep issue and I'm sure that will work because I can now create manual activities which show the HR graphs, I haven't been able to for three days.
This Ionic worked perfectly for 11 weeks including over 300 successful Pays. Now the only issue is when I push the left button the Ionic just vibrates and a blank screen. I will test that in the morning to see if Pay is active.. The Wallet and Pin are ok and enabled.
I will post again.

I had the same issue, I was seeing a red X message no matter how many times I rebooted.
I just ignored it! Remove the device from fitbit app, unpaired the ionic. Add the device to the fitbit app and go through the device setup again.

@JayK17Thanks for confirming that... Sleep recorded as it should last night, and the only hangover now, is when I left button push for the Pay feature, instead of displaying "Hold to Reader" etc it's a blank screen and buzzes.
Boxing Day here so I will see if pay works later in the day...

I gotta agree with mumof6girls this is not a gd device especially for a new competitor had it one day took ages to link with my HTC 10 and afterwards did not receive any notifications AT ALL!!!!
In my opinion stick to trackers as this is a less than mediocre smartwatch minus the smart.....

Another good day... I established that the factory reset had cleared the image of the Credit card, hence the blank screen. The confusing part was that the card information was still there..
I cleared the Wallet and re-added the credit card and all prompts worked perfectly through the process.
Also a good day of recording everything including sleep again.

I've got the same red X & asking me to sync & try again, did you find out how to sort it out. Mine not work at all now

@KFDRPI just had to try all available devices.. I had no luck with the Android, my first go with my wife's iPad worked.
Another instance where all else failed after the red X.. I had no luck with the earlier devices and found that our Windows 10 desktop worked..
My Ionic has been stable since on each of the Android App updates and included an Android 8 update and a security patch.
This doesn't help you but I had to keep trying..and eventual;lty it succeeded..

@KFDRP Welcome to the Fitbit forums! Thanks for reporting this situation. Usually, the red X appears when the firmware update from Ionic failed for some reason.
Are you still experiencing the same?
I'd recommend checking this helpful article for more details. You will find some workarounds that should help you out.
@Zizillia It's great to see you in the Fitbit family! Thanks for sharing the solution that helped you to sort this out. I'm sure this will be helpful for other users too! You can also factory reset Ionic by going to its Settings app > About > Factory Reset.
@Colinm39 Thanks for your great help on this thread. I'm sure your workaround is also useful for other users!
Keep me posted!

I'm having the exact same problem. Everything was working before I started the firmware update.

@wgb140 Welcome to the Fitbit family! Thanks for starting the firmware update on your Ionic.
If you are getting the magenta "X" while updating Ionic, means that the update failed. In that casem I'd recommend following the steps found on this helpful article to resolve that.
I also recommend doing the update over a home Wi-Fi network. Check out this article for more details on connecting Ionic to a Wi-Fi network.
Also, can you confirm if Ionic is paired to your account? Do you see it on the Fitbit app? If not, you will need to pair it back again by following the steps here.
Hope this helps. Let me know how it goes!
