Feedback about Ionic - My experience

So, I've been stewing on this for a while, waiting for the right opportunity to express my ire with my Fitbit Ionic experience, and the crappy response I got from Fitbit in my attempt to be a loyal customer.  So, it started when I purchased my first Fitbit Ionic in January 2018.  I bought it as a holiday present for myself.  I'm a teacher, so I don't have much.  This was my one splurge for the year.  I went to Best Buy and spent $286.15 to be exact for the watch.  This is a lot for someone on a modest income.  Anyway, I am very happy with my watch and I proceed to use it regularly.  Then one day, on July 6, 2019, it fell apart.  No warning, no prior issues, it just fell apart.  I mean, the face separated from the watch completely.  Unfortunately, I did not purchase the extended warranty, so I was given the option of buying another one at a discounted rate from Fitbit.  Not wanting to leave the Fitbit community, I went and bought another one at Best Buy at a discount on 7/7/19.  I spent $190.75.  I attempted to purchase the extended warranty, but this was not offered because it was a price match with Target.  Notice, in the space of 2 years, I spent $476.90 just Fitbit Ionic alone.  That is a bit shy of $500.  So, fast forward to the pandemic.  I started having some problems around May 2020 with the band on the Ionic.  On one side of the watch, the band was not staying in.  I tried other bands to see if maybe it was a defective band, but, the others didn't work either. Now, any pull on the watch, and the band detaches then falls off my wrist.  With everything being shut down, I hadn't been going anywhere, let alone to go to Best Buy to inquire about the issue.  They have very strict social distancing rules.  So, I called into Fitbit to see if they could help me with the issue.  I was told that because the one warranty had expired, the best they could do was to offer me a 35% discount on another watch...the Ionic is not included on the list.  So, if I were to go with the Versa 2, I would have to pay $116.97+tax for another watch.  So, that would be 3 watches in less than 3 years from Fitbit to bring my total to well over $600.  I say 3 watches because they had to send me a replacement on 9/29/19 for the one I bought on 7/7/19.  Two months after I bought the replacement, it was not holding any charge.  I am venting because instead of offering to fix the issue, Fitbit is asking that I buy another one of their defective watches.  I am coming on here because it is my hope that someone from Fitbit would look into this matter and do the right thing.  I consider myself to be a brand loyal person...I've been with the same cell phone company for over 20 years.  When a company demonstrates to me that they value my loyalty as a customer, then I will stick with them through their rough patches.  But, if a company is only in it for the money and could care less about their customers, then I predict they won't be around for very long, and I will blast them every opportunity I get.  I would like for Fitbit to attempt to fix my watch.  I don't need a replacement.  I just need the area where the band latches into to be fixed.  The watch works fine.  I still wear it.  However, I have to be careful that the band doesn't get separated if I move around too much.

Unfortunately Fitbit don't repair their devices. There are no screws on the back, so you literally have to crack open the case to go internal. The rechargeable battery is not designed to be replaceable. Although some with too much time on there hands and out for a challenge HAVE replaced the battery in some Fitbit models.

As far as your band goes, you need to take the offending band off and with a magnifying glass and bright light see if the pin captive holes/slots on the Ionic case are faulty/burred? If not, then I'd suggest spending a few dollars on a non-genuine band from eBay. Should cost no more, or even less than $10. If damage is done to the pin slot captive area then you're out of luck unfortunately.
