I found that the Fitbit Ionic is actually walking around while it's charge. Although it appears to be stationary on the table while connected to the charging cable. However, I had over 5K steps in this morning before I even put the Ionic on. Is there a way to correct this?

Hey there @TCStrut, it's nice to see you around the forums! Could your Ionic have been near a vibration source (such as a fan, dehumidifier, or even a computer CPU)? In that case it could interpret those vibrations as steps and that could explain what you are seeing.
If you can see from your graphs what time those steps came in you can log driving to zero out your steps. Make sure to follow the instructions and find the built in driving activity, as if you create a custom activity it will not work.
If you haven't done so already, give your Ionic a restart to see if that fixes this as well. If not let me know if the issue persists.

I have seen several messages about this.
In most cases there is something vibrating on the same surface as the watch.
Some had a fan rotating, others had someting else, but almost always something was vibrating, which the watch detected as moving.

the best solution is to take the Ionic back to where you purchased it and get your money back. I had no luck other than wrapping mine in a towel to solve this.

I bought my Ionic watch 5 days ago. I charged it, plugged to my computer and near it, and i have 10k extra steps. I'm going to try next time in a safe aera, without vibration.
But i'm not happy to notice a product that costs 300€ can have that kind of problem, that's not normal.
Will it be fix, or do i need to care always to check the charging area ?
Thanks.

There may be a fix in the works, I don't know. There is an update available to some users that will be rolled out soon, which may solve this. In the meantime, I would check the charging area just to be sure.

My Ionic even records hr while sitting on the table during the night. This totally destroys the data.

I hope it will be fixed.. I'm surprised to see 0 message from users talking about how expensive it is and having a big issue like that.. When i read the forum, i see also others issues like HR and distance mistakes.. 😞
I had an other sport watch ; i had 0 issues. I just wanted to have a better looking watch, like the Ionic.
Let's hope it will be the only issue i get 😞

This is a really severe bug with the ionic that there is currently no fix for. There is a post for a suggested fix to this problem here, please give it a vote: https://community.fitbit.com/t5/Feature-Suggestions/No-tracking-when-charging-for-Ionic/idi-p/254515...

I just experienced this last night, a whopping 40k by morning, Logging sleep or driving failed to remove them. Restarting the watch half a dozen times did nothing. Any help would be appreciated, I got a bunch of badges that I would one day like to earn on my own. This throws off all my metrics for this month.

This is happening to me too - SUPER annoying. I feel like the "step tracking" feature should be *turned off* when the fitbit is plugged in. How hard would that be for fitbit to include in a firmware update?

Yes that or when heart rate equals zero record no steps. Pretty basic for such an expensive watch.
Maybe they expect zombies to use fitbits?

Hello!
I have exactly the same problem with my Fitbit Ionic, after 5 months of use, now two days it completely destroys the statistics adding steps and distance. Did you find a solution?
