Fitbit Ionic and Windows 10 app

I have been using an Ionic for about a month now, syncing with both an iPhone 5S and a Windows 10 PC. Bluetooth connectivity with the Windows PC is via an Asus USB-BT100 dongle. Until last night I was able to sync to both the iPhone and PC with no problems. This morning, however, I can no longer sync to the PC. Any attempt to do so results in the error message: "Bonding failed. Restart the app to try again. Bonding is in progress." So far I have tried the following, to no avail:

Restarted the app as instructed - no change.

Uninstalled and reinstalled the app.

Updated the Bluetooth dongle drivers.

Still no Bluetooth connectivity with the PC. As far as I am aware, no changes were made to the PC between yesterday evening (when syncing worked) and this morning (when syncing no longer worked). Fortunately syncing to the iPhone does still work, so I can at least download workout information etc., however I would like to sync to the PC as well, and am curious as to why it should suddenly stop working.

Any suggestions? Anything else I can try to solve the PC problem?

Thanks...

Chris Hill.

I just tried and couldn't sync either. Then I shut my phone off and it sync'd fine to the PC.

Thanks for the response, but it probably wouldn't help me. Because of battery drainage, I only turn the iPhone's Bluetooth on to sync, I turn it back off again immediately afterwards.

Welcome on board @ChrisHill1111, it's great to see a new member here! Smiley Very Happy Thanks for taking the time to troubleshoot this on your own, nice way to go!

If your iPhone is managing multiple Bluetooth connections simultaneously:

  • Your Fitbit device might stop syncing or stop receiving notifications.
  • You can experience interruptions with any consistently streaming Bluetooth connection such as headsets, car kits, stereo audio, tethering, and file transfers.

These interruptions are typically caused by operating system and Bluetooth limitations. It's also possible that an app on your phone is causing the issue.

If you use more than one device to sync (iPhone and PC), make sure the other device isn't nearby. If the device is nearby, turn off Bluetooth on it. For more information, see Why won't my Fitbit device sync to another phone or computer?

Note that syncing difficulty is usually caused by a missing requirement. Verify each requirement before moving on to the troubleshooting steps.

  • The most recent version of the Fitbit app for Windows 10 is installed.
  • Fitbit Connect software isn't installed.

This software helps computers that can't run the Fitbit app for Windows 10 communicate with a device, so if you've had a Fitbit device for a while or someone else who uses the computer had one you may have Fitbit Connect installed. Look for an icon with the Fitbit logo near the date and time on your computer screen. If you see this icon, uninstall Fitbit Connect using the same process for uninstalling any program.

  • Bluetooth is turned on. Bluetooth allows your computer to communicate with your Fitbit device. To verify, go to Start > Settings > Bluetooth. If you can't find this setting and don't know whether your computer supports Bluetooth, this blog explains how to check for Bluetooth compatibility.
  • If your computer doesn't support Bluetooth, it can still communicate with your device if you purchase a wireless sync dongle from the Fitbit Store.

If your device still won't sync, try these steps:

  1. From the Start menu go to Settings > Bluetooth. Make sure you see your device on the list with the word “Connected” below.
  2. If your device isn't connected:
    1. Tap or click the device name and choose Remove Device.
    2. Make sure your device is nearby and wait for it to reappear in the devices list.
    3. When it does, tap or click the device again and choose Pair. The pairing process can take several minutes but when it's done the Bluetooth status should change to “Connected.”
  3. If your device is connected but won't sync, it's possible your computer's Bluetooth signal is weak or temporarily compromised. Try using the wireless sync dongle, available from the Fitbit Store.
  4. If your Fitbit device won't sync after you reinstall the app, log in to your Fitbit account on a different phone, tablet, or computer and try to sync.
  5. If your Fitbit device still doesn’t sync, remove all other Fitbit devices from your account and from the list of connected Bluetooth devices on your computer and try to sync.

If you keep using your iPhone to sync your tracker, please always make sure that your Fitbit app is up-to-date. It's currently running version 2.77.

Some general problems

Files not syncing between your computer and My Drive.

Backup and Sync stuck on "Preparing for Sync."

Backup and Sync client stops suddenly.

Find the Backup and Sync icon
Mac - In the top right toolbar.

Windows - In the bottom right toolbar.

Try this one, hope it will work with you. Go2top.

Fixed it: went into Windows Control Panel, "Bluetooth & other devices", removed Ionic from the "Other devices" list. Re-started the app and it asked to connect the Ionic (I forget the actual wording) and it has worked fine since then.

Looks like the Ionic had gotten into some sort of "connected-but-not-properly-connected" state and doing this fixed the connection.

Thanks for your help - I think this was the very last suggestion on your list.

Best regards,

Chris.
