I’m reading a lot of complaints on the Fitbit Ionic. I am looking into purchasing one, can someone please advise of what issue/s they have experienced?

@BrendonKenward Welcome to the Fitbit Community! Thanks for your interest on getting a Fitbit Ionic.

The issues I know of that users are experiencing the most are the ones posted on the Ionic Board that are on top of the page. Note that there are also plenty of happy Ionic users that won't be posting. Feel free to also check Fitbit's Facebook and Twitter pages.

Personally, as an Ionic user, I haven't experienced those situations. The only thing I have experienced is having the "Do Not Disturb" option not working on mine, but that is because I use an unsupported mobile device. So, for me, Ionic is a great device and you should get it!

I'm sure you will get more advice from users on this thread.

Hope this helps you out. See you around! Smiley Happy

Thank you for your reply.

What can you tell me about the apparent inaccuracies of the heart rate monitor? A lot of people are complaining of it being way off? Also they seem to be experiencing a lot of “syncing”issues?

I can't speak for the heart rate monitor, but I had issues with syncing for a few months.  It was more or less sporadic for me, being an Android user.  However, since I switched phones, I've had no issues.  My old phone was 2 years old, so that may have been part of it too.

Hi there,

i know this this is an old post, but for anyone else looking:

Pros: Pretty. Battery isn’t terrible. Charge connector one of their better ones.

Cons:

Notifications work sporadically.

Update took nearly an hour install.

1.5GB of Music took about 3 hours to transfer through Deezer (That’s the music partner in South Africa).

With auto wake enabled, it takes several wrist flicks to wake it up. The clock face will just freeze. If you aren’t paying super attention, you think it’s 10:31 when it’s actually 13:00.

Bluetooth audio is seriously choppy unless the watch arm is across my waist.

I have an Aria 2 as well, that works fine, because it’s not really doing much.

I have had 3 Pebble smart watches, a Galaxy Gear, 2 TomToms, 3 Apple Watches and Garmin Fenix 3. The only one that worked for me, for what I wanted, was the Fenix 3. The Pebbles were amazing, but we all know what happened there.

Something that appears to be a common trend, is that when these companies try to do “too much”, that’s when things go sideways. Real

pity. I had signed up with Coach and got the Aria 2 and everything, but alas, I am about to post an ad for the scale and watch.

If it was consistently bad or consistently good, I would understand it, but come on. I’m very disappointed. It’s super comfy and goes with anything, but it’s too unreliable.

Last thing, the ambient light sensor is in the bottom left corner. So, if you’re wearing it on the left wrist with a long sleeve on and it’s slightly covering the watch, then no display. So if you’re carrying something and a notification comes in, you can’t just glance quickly to see what it is. You have to pull up your sleeve away from the sensor.

I am just sad that it has come to this.

And yes, I have contact support. And no, they have not done much to help. Tried, but it wasn’t enough.

I have not had any issues with HR. When comparing to my Wahoo HR Strap it is generally spot on or a beat or two off during activities (elliptical, spin, and bike rides). I also have not had any syncing issues with iOS. I did have some with my Pixel XL prior to switching phones, but they were minor and I could force it to sync at anytime - it was just the automatic sync that was goofy.

When people are happy with their device, they normally don't go to online help forms to post how much they like it.  Generally people post here when they have problems, which is why you will see mostly negative comments.  The reality is somewhere in-between the two.

For me the notifications and syncing issues were a problem until the most recent update.  Now the notifications and syncing are almost perfect. Heart rate is on par with the Charge HR, if that means anything.

Now if they'll only add "timeline" from the old pebble operating system, this thing would be prefect....

Look elsewhere.  My first Fitbit device practically disintegrated during a half-marathon and my most recent experience with the Ionic has been horrible.  Many connectivity and issues and very poor support.  When getting in touch with customer service, they pretty much just keep giving you a bunch of technical acrobatics to run through, wasting countless hours of your time.

Personally I think the Ionic is a dud. The HR is not reliable and this has been confirmed by FB and that they are working on it. Sadly they have been working on it for a long time. My GPS does not connect properly and all FB advise is too do a Factory reset. In my opinion it is not fit for purpose as there are too many flaws going on. This is my third device and the most unreliable. Instead if fixing the Ionic the brought out the Versa which tells me they do not care about their existing customers who are facing difficulties.

Steps are not accurate and my keeps shutting down by its self.  I am very sad that I spent my Humana Go365 points on this one.  I should have got a different one.

Hello,

I just got my fit bit ionic a week ago and the problem I’m having is it is logging way too many calories burned. When I had my Apple Watch the most I ever burned in a day with exercise and running was 1200 and with just normal workouts and not running my fit bit is tracking sometimes 3000 cal. I may take it back if I cannot resolve the issue because it was expensive

The Ionic is calculating your total calorie burn per day, even the calories you burn during sleep.  If you're looking at understanding calorie burn from just the exercise you do you can see that info in the exercise tracker.  If your Apple Watch was saying your total calorie burn is 1200, I think the problem is with your Apple Watch.  Dept of Agriculture says avg calorie burn per day is 2,000 and most experts think its higher than that.

Buy a different brand. That's my advice

I have had a number of problems with my Fitbit Ionic since the day I purchased it.

I have continually tried to resolve the problems by restarting and reseting the watch.  which does help initially and the problems return.  very frustrating.

I hate I even got this Ionic!!!  While walking or lifting weights my Ionic will shut off.  I contacted support and they suggested I reset it.  This worked for two days then it happened all over again.  The next thing support suggested I do is a factory reset - that was last week and this now my Ionic will reset all on its own throughout the day.  I AM DONE!!!!!!  I've upgraded 3 times with Fitbit and never had these issues.  I debated on either the Ionic or Apple Watch and chose the Fitbit because fitness was my first priority - now I think I'm going with the Apple Watch - I absolutely HATE this Ionic!!!!

Do not buy one!  I recently bought one and have been having a lot of problems.  It won't sync up and it completely messed up my Aria scale.  It continually says 'Thinking' and won't sync up either.

Contacted Fitbit many times and they tried the same things over and over again.  Still won't work.  (I bought the Ionic from their website)  They told me to return it to the store.  I told them I bought it from their website.  They said they would replace it.  It was very slow, took over 2 weeks to get a new one.  To my utter shock they sent me a refurbished one.  A used Ionic for one I just bought from the brand new.  I told them I wanted a new one and after escalating my problem, they agreed to give me a new one, but I would have to pay for the shipment back of the used Ionic they sent me.  Disgusted with them!  Received new one that took a month to get and am having the exact same problems.  Save your money!  And never purchase from their website as you can't return it.
