Fitbit Ionic frozen/unresponsive, temperature warning, after first swim

Went for a swim for the first time in a swimming pool for about 20 minutes and no deeper than 6 feet and when I got out of the pool the step tracker was going crazy counting step 20 at a time.  I tried restarting the watch and that when the real problems started, now the watch is unresponsive and it goes thru the menus on its own.  I tried restarting again and it wouldn't restart it was just stuck on the run menu page.  Then all of a sudden I got a temperature warning signal and the watch wouldn't do anything.  Finally got it turn off and now while writing this it turned itself back on but froze immediately and won't respond to any commands.  Oh and I almost forgot the HBM stopped working as well. The watch is only a week old and this was my first time really taking it in water, pretty disappointed.

A warm welcome to the Community @TNTournahu! Thanks for the troubleshoot that you've followed. I would like you to follow these steps:

  1. Put your tracker into a bowl of dry rice for 24 hours. This will extract any moisture that remains inside the device.
  2. After your tracker has been in rice for 24 hours, restart it using the instructions in How do I restart my tracker?

Also, you can try cleaning the charger contacts and change the power source to make sure it charges properly after it has been placed into a bowl of dry rice.

If you have a wrist-based tracker and can see condensation inside the screen, provide me with a screenshot of the error message you're seeing.

Keep me posted!

I understand putting the watch into a bowl of rice to get the moisture out but that doesnt fix the problem.  What happens next time I take into water? Am I gonna have to do this every time I put it in water? I'm just going to return it and get a Garmin or Suunto. Thanks for the help.

Thanks for getting back @TNTournahu! You don't have to follow this procedure every time you use your Ionic to swim. However, I've provided the troubleshoot that could fix the inconvenience you're having.

If after performing this, your watch it's still not working properly, I can send your post to our Support team for further assistance.

Hope I can continue seeing you around! Robot Happy
