Wareable has a piece on the new Fitbit smartwatch.  You can see the Pebble influence in the design. Thoughts?

Just saw that, looks quite nice as a Blaze successor.

@datalore wow that is interesting. Though the design doesnt appeal to me as much as the Ionic, which I think looks sleeker and more modern than the squarish new one. To me it looks rathed like an Apple watch design.  Nice to have different colours and maybe it will appeal more to women. Just probably not to this woman!

@datalore We appreciate the interest and excitement around new Fitbit products. As you know, we are constantly working on new devices to help people live healthier lives. We don't have news to share at this time, but you'll be amongst the first to know when we do.

The sooner the Blaze is replaced with an Ionic derivative, the better.

Whilst I admire Fitbit’s desire for innovation and consumer choice. I do worry that they maybe be moving too fast. The Ionic is barely six months old and far from fulfilling it’s potential. There are many ways in which Fitbit could improve the user experience and hundreds of suggestions on the dedicated forum for fixes and new features. How can Fitbit respond to these and improve if they are focused on a new release? After spending almost £300 on the Ionic, just months ago, I think users deserve some reassurance that Fitbit are still dedicated to making the Ionic experience the best it can be.

I think the watch will improve the Ionic experience. This new watch is about getting wider adoption of the Fitbit OS which will foster more development, or at least that's the theory anyway. I hope this watch is a little more popular than the Ionic, and I hope Fitbit survives so we can have an alternative smartwatch. I do, however, wish they would execute better.

I can't see how this will improve the Ionic experience. I read a post not too long ago in one of the many threads about the issues the Ionic is having with syncing and notifications, where they were postulating that Fitbit is staying mum about the issues because they are likely focusing on a new watch and leaving Ionic owners in the dust. I feel the news of this new device confirms that fear.

You could very well be right, but I think with more watches using the OS they will have more resources to focus on improving the user experience. It could very well be that the Ionic just has hardware problems.

It seems this new watch will replace the Blaze and will be called the Fitbit Versa.

Fitbit's also bringing a new charge out this year as well. There wasn't any detailed info about it in the articles I read, but they were the same articles that talked about the new blaze.....and I read those months ago.

Things that make you go hmm.... 😋

Feels like a slap in the face for everyone that shelled out for the Ionic 'announcing' another smartwatch when the current one hasn't been sorted out yet.

Think the Ionic will be my first and last Fitbit product

I think this watch will actually improve the Ionic experience. Since this watch and Ionic will be using the same OS things should only improve as far as user experience. If the Versa is a hot seller this will foster more OS development which should help everyone. We should also see problems identified more quickly and solved more quickly due to more eyes on the software and we should also see more apps. All of these theories, of course, are assuming that the Versa will sell at least at the rate of the Blaze it's replacing. If the watch doesn't sell obviously my rosy scenario won't play out that way.

@datalore Fitbit has publicly committed to smartwatches and fitbitOS. It doesn't matter how many smartwatches they sell, the OS will get better.
