Fitbit unresponsive after update, corroded electronics discovered inside

My fitbit ionic stopped charging after the update, I tried every trick I but in the end could not even do a hard reset anymore because it became unresponsive and soon after the screen also didn't show anything anymore. That was odd to say the least.

Because the watch was out of warranty (not for long mind you)

as a final resort I went to a phone repair shop to have them have a close look at the seeminly dead fitbit ionic.

To my great surprise - the watch electronics on the inside showed signs of serious corrosion.

That is impressive for a product claimed to function even up to 50 feet under water!

I could understand failure from a processor getting fried because of intensive usage (or something),

but corrosion - at least to me - points at the product not being waterproof in contrary of what is promised. From a product priced like this I would expect it to at least be waterproof.

I got the fitbit ionic as a (really expensive) present about 2 years ago and besides my personal feelings I also find it pretty sad for the person who gave it to me.

"Out of warranty"

Yeah.... I am very disappointed.
