Fitbit versus Garmin

I have been with Fitbit for 5 years now and used numerous different devices. In general I had been happy with the application and watches. However more recently I am having numerous issues especially around Challenge integration and synchronisation. I have the Ionic which isn't a cheap watch so I am just wondering whether now is the time to switch to Garmin?

The issues relating to the Ionic have been unresolved for over 12 months. The current issue looks to be a simple fix so i assume Fitbit have chosen not to resolve it and prioritise introducing new watches and pretty straps. Has fitbit now become more focused on creating pretty watches rather than functional watches? What are people's experience of Garmin watches? Do they value functionality more and customer feedback?

My experience with FitBit products has not be positive. Their products appear to have a definite lifespan of about 9 -11 months. [ Ionic, Fitbit Charge, FitBit Flyers ]

I have had a pair of Flyers Replaced under warranty, the warranty Flyers then stopped working after 3 months and FitBit's response was ( your out of warranty )
The FitBit Ionic has just given up the ghost  today.

The FitBit Charge is showing signs of not working, heart rate monitor recording heart rate when the device is not on wrist.

I have taken a run with both devices on the same arm  and on different arms respectively and received different heart readings and step counts.
It appears that their aim is not to endear customer loyalty.
I am asking the same questions around Garmin and from the responses I have found thus far it appears their (Garmin ) product works as advertised.
